BY LARRY BLOCK-
It started out six years ago as the OLT Battle of the Church Bands, the brainchild of then new Ouachita Little Theatre (OLT) board member, Larry Block, who produces musical events for the theater. It was never an actual battle, as the OLT shared the proceeds, equally, with each of the bands. While the name was perhaps “catchy,” it was also offensive to some people, so after the second year the name was changed to the OLT Church Band Extravaganza. That title may have been a bit extravagant, so the event, which always features the praise and worship teams from several of the largest churches in the area, has evolved its name, once more, to something that is finally, really very accurate, The OLT Community Praise & Worship Concert.
This year’s event will occur this Saturday night, at 7 PM at the OLT, at 610 Mena St. The bands included will represent Grace Bible Church, and Hatfield’s Penuel Assembly of God Church, Cherry Hill Methodist’s WITNESS Quartet. This year OLT Past President, Jay Rodgers will produce it, but will introduce Penuel’s Pastor, Kevin Price, who will host the show. “Pastor Price will not only host this event,” said Rodgers, “He will also bring more of a worshipful element to it. I think that will please the audience even more than they have been in the past. It is going to be a very fun evening and an exciting experience for everyone,” he went on to say.
Tickets for the show are $5.00, available at the box office at the OLT starting at 6:15 PM on Saturday evening. For more information contact the OLT information line at (479) 243-0186, or visit the OLT website, www.oltmena.com.
