Acorn FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), are currently taking part in a Star Event (Students Taking Action with Recognition) through the national organization. Star Events are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperation, individualization and competition. STAR Events are grouped into Foundational, Leadership, Career Preparation, and Online Events.
Acorn FCCLA chose Advocacy as their event programming and won the district level. They will next head to state competition. For their events, they advocated for the Back the Blue movement. Students have presented programs to elementary students and had black and blue bracelets made for the younger students to wear that say ‘Back the Blue.’
FCCLA teacher, Sydney Jackson, said the students chose advocating for law enforcement in light of all of the negative attention across the country in regards to officers.
