Allan Mark Steinberg of Mena, Arkansas passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Mena Regional Health System in Mena, Arkansas. He was 59 years old. Allan was born October 4, 1954 in Middletown, NY. At the age of 14, his family moved to San Diego. He joined Junior Theatre, where he enjoyed working backstage setting up the lighting for many plays and musical venues. In 1974, he was hired as a temporary stagehand for the city of San Diego. Three years later, he received his union card and was a member of the IATSE Local #122. In 1978, he was awarded “Apprentice of the Year” for his outstanding work as a stagehand. In 1982, he was promoted to Master Electrician for the San Diego Opera and San Diego Symphony. He worked with many show biz entertainers and musicians, his favorite being Sammy Davis, Jr. He toured with Boz Scaggs as head electrician for concerts throughout the United States. After 25 years in the industry, a back injury forced him to retire at the age of 47.
Allan was a very likeable guy and made friends wherever he went. He loved watching the History Channel and could talk to you about anything and everything. His sudden passing has left a void in our lives and he will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Alley Boy, we love you!
He was preceded in death by his father Albert B. Steinberg.
He is survived by his mother Frances M. Steinberg of Mena, Arkansas; a brother Barry Steinberg of Greenville, PA; his sister and brother-in-law Caren and Bob Brewer, Jr. of Hatfield, Arkansas; his nephew Adam B. Steinberg of Cumberland, R.I.; his loving aunts Mrs. Bea Gurdineer of Montrose, NY, Ms. Charlotte R. Mekeel of Lancaster, PA, Mrs. Hilda Maio of La Mesa, CA, and Mrs. Sylvia Arden of Studio City, CA. He also leaves behind his two constant feline companions Morty Boy and LuLu Bell.
Allan was sent for cremation under the direction of Beasley Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
