The annual Veteran’s Day celebrations around the County weren’t held off by rain. The 2nd Annual Veteran’s Day Parade began amidst cloudy skies as Mena Street was lined with citizens that watched and gave honor as current and retired military members marched on.
Winners in this year’s parade were: 1st Place, DAR Float; 2nd Place, Ouachita Regional Hospice Float; 3rd Place, Marvin Wolfenbarger’s 1952 Jeep, with Wolfenbarger in his Army Uniform.
The Mena Emblem Club moved their annual wreath dedication to the Mena Elks Lodge. The Lodge was packed as clubs, businesses, and individuals dedicated wreaths in honor of fallen heroes. Acorn High School Band entertained the crowd with traditional American favorites.
A luncheon was also held on Veteran’s Day. Dean Boyd heads up the project that is contributed to by local individuals and businesses. The luncheon is free to Veterans and their families. A Veteran’s Slide Show was presented by Mena High School and Middle School EAST classes. Students from EAST also served the Veterans during lunch. Younger members of Mena Public Schools made table decorations for the luncheon as well.
