The Rich Mountain Conservation District, the Arkansas Forestry Commission, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, team up each year to educate Polk County’s fourth grade students about Arbor Day. Arbor Day is held the 3rd Monday in March in the state of Arkansas. It is a day set aside to encourage people to plant and care for trees. Students learned the importance of pine trees to our local community, how to choose a planting location, and how to successfully plant a tree. Each fourth grade student from Wickes, Vandervoort, Acorn, and Holly Harshman elementary was given a Loblolly pine tree to take home and plant over spring break. This year, trees were generously donated by Danny Powell.
