Mr. Argus John “Choc” Horton, age 91, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at his home.
He was born January 11, 1923 in Jensen, Utah, the son of the late Thomas and Victoria Horton. He was happily married for 70 years to Monnie Hendrix. Choc was a mechanic by trade, but was a loyal servant to his country and his community, always there to help a neighbor and proudly serving in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and helped out by driving their van often. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and was a founding member of the Shady Grove/Rocky Fire Department. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Choc never met a stranger, and always had a smile on his face, and for this will be forever remembered by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Monnie Horton of the home; children, Randy Horton and wife Becky of Mena, Arkansas; grandchildren Randall Horton and wife Sarah of Mena, Arkansas; Rachael Hopper and husband Linden of Mena, Arkansas; great-grandchildren Ruby Hopper, Bella Horton, Remington Hopper, Layla Horton, and Dustin Choc Horton (on the way); special nieces Mildred McLain of Mena, Arkansas; Vicki Agee of Mena, Arkansas; nephew Franklin Nunnelee of Bella Vista, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Victoria Horton and a son Jerry Horton.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Interment follows in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday evening, July 14th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brian Hilton, Mike Rostollan, Eddie Terrell, Sam Waters, Terry Terrell, Randy Horton, Randall Horton, and Linden Hopper. Honorary pallbearer will be Lee Gandy.
