Several local churches have joined together to host what they hope will become an annual event for local students. A ‘Back 2 School Block Party’ is planned for this Friday, August 18, at Bearcat Stadium and is open to all county students 6th through 12th grade, including Acorn, Cossatot, Mena or home school students. The Red Black Scrimmage for Mena, previously scheduled for August 18, was moved to Thursday, August 17.
“Back to school is a big time for students and we just wanted to create a fun time for them to hang-out,” said Melissa Puckett, a teacher a MHS. The Block Party will provide a fun and safe environment for students to gather and hang out after their first week of school.
A blitz ball tournament, the ultimate backyard baseball, is planned as well as many other fun games students will want to participate in. Students can create teams beforehand or sign up at the event. Winner will receive bragging rights. “We also encourage them to bring their instruments and we’ll have a place set up for jam sessions, too.”
“Of course, as with any fun event involving students, there will be plenty of free pizza and drinks, available throughout the night.”
The event is scheduled from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Students are encouraged to incite friends from school for the exciting time.
