BY LEANN DILBECK – U.S. Forest Service officials have confirmed that crews are currently battling two wildfires in Montgomery County. The Gaston Mountain Fire is just south of the Hog Jaw community and officials said the second, the Warren Fire, is near Black Springs.
While officials have not confirmed a third fire, residents in the area have reported another near the North Fork Lake area.
Heavy smoke can be seen from miles away from where these remote fires are located.
The National Weather Service issued a Fire Weather Watch to be in effect Friday morning through Sunday evening for a large portion of Arkansas. A cold front will move through the region tonight with high pressure closely following. The close proximity of the systems will create gusty winds, mainly during the daytime hours through the weekend and may complicate the efforts of the crews.
No other information can be confirmed at this time as their focus is on containing these blazes as quickly as possible. We will continue to follow this developing story.
