Carrah “Bonnie” Lovana James, age 85, of Hatfield, Arkansas formally of Milan, New Mexico, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born on Monday, June 18, 1928 to Jesse Samuel and Maude Montana Ramsay Janes in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
Carrah was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Grants, New Mexico. She graduated from New Mexico State University, Las Cruses, New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education which was one of her greatest achievements in life. Carrah served many years as a radio operator for the Grants-Milan Squadron of the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol. She enjoyed designing and piecing quilts. She also enjoyed painting and making flower arrangements. Carrah was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jimmy C. James; two brothers William Janes and Wilburn Janes; two sisters Dollie Bullard and Violet Hesselgrave; one daughter Reberta James; one granddaughter Stephanie James; and one great grandson Sidney Romine.
Carrah is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law Ellis and Mary James of Milan, New Mexico, Jimmy S. and JoAn James Milan, New Mexico, and Jay Paul and Jean James of Clovis, New Mexico; two daughters and sons-in-law Rebecca and Sidney “Bill” Romine of Hatfield, Arkansas and Reba and Mikell Stowe of Buckley, Washington; sixteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in McAlester, Oklahoma with Brother Don Parr officiating. Interment will follow in the Tannehill Cemetery in Tannehill, Oklahoma under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas. No visitation is scheduled.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
