Bearcats & Ladycats End Season at 7-AAAA District Tourney

The Mena Bearcats faced the Bauxite Miners during the first round of 7-AAAA District Tournament play held at Ashdown Monday night.  The Miners beat out the Bearcats 64-54.  The Ladycats also ended their season on Monday night when they faced the Arkadelphia Lady Badgers who defeated the Ladycats 38-30.

Winners of Acorn’s PeeWee Classic

Acorn Schools hosted the Acorn PeeWee Classic Saturday, February 7. Participating in the tournament were Mena, Oden, Kirby, Acorn and Mount Ida.  The Acorn 6th Grade Lady Tigers and the 4th Grade Lady Tigers, coached by Chris Tedder claimed 1st place in each of their divisions.  The Mena 3rd Grade Ladycats won 1st for their division.

Acorn and Oden’s Showdown

The Acorn-Oden Showdown was played as Senior Night was celebrated on February 2nd at Acorn High School. Acorn reigned supreme in both the boys and girls games, besting Oden by a score of 58-29 in the girls’ game and a score of 61-41 in the boys game.

Cossatot River Basketball Tournament

The hosting Cossatot River Eagles lost to Mineral Springs during the Cossatot River High School Basketball tournament on Thursday night during a nailbiting game. Mineral Springs advanced to face the Nashville Scrapperettes on Saturday.  The Scrapperettes claimed the championship of the defeating Mineral Springs Lady Hornets who received the runner-up award.  Nashville girls won 58 to 43.
