Posey Hollow Horsecamp is hosting their 3rd Independence Day Chuckwagon Races and Open Rodeo June 28th through July 2nd and are inviting everyone to join the fun. Posey Hollow owners, Rick and Lora Hosman, said there were more than 400 in attendance last year, and this year looks to be even bigger. “This year we have combined our race with the Arkansas Chuckwagon Association and that will at least double the contestants,” said Lora Hosman.
The fun begins with an open rodeo on June 29 and 30. The Hosmans were able to purchase the old Idabel, Oklahoma rodeo arena last year and brought it home, creating an arena for the rodeo events. Lanny Teague and Blackland and Richie Owens and the RVO Band will provide live music on June 30 and July 1.
In addition to the open rodeo, there will also be two days of Chuckwagon racing action. The race is not just for show, it’s a rookie qualifier for the National Chuckwagon Racing Event that will be held in Clinton, Arkansas on Labor Day weekend, where more than 30,000 people attend. “Our race is now the biggest in southwest Arkansas,” smiled Rick.
Lora said their Posey Hollow Horsecamp is a special place that draws people in, whether they be contestants or fans. “It’s the setting,” she said, “Everybody brings their family and they can camp, take their horses on a trail ride, sit around a pond and fish, enjoy good food, and this year, there will be snow cones made in a uniquely old fashion way.”
Camping sites are available on the property. Security is provided, and EMS and med-flight services will also be on hand. No ATV’s are allowed, but folks can take their horses on a trailride, or sit around the pond and fish, and enjoy good food. Entry to the events is either $15 per person per day or $40 per person for a weekend pass. Kids 10 & under are free.
