Members of the Mena City Council met Wednesday, August 1st in a special called meeting to pass a resolution to authorize the mayor, city clerk/treasurer and city attorney to execute a grant agreement and to accept a bid for computer equipment.
Council members passed a resolution to accept a grant in the amount of $3,723,187 from the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program. The grant will be used to reconstruct Taxiway B at the Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport.
The City of Mena is required to contribute 10 percent in matching funds. Airport Manager Fred Ogden reported $250,000 of the 10 percent would be provided by the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics and the remaining $163,000 would be paid by with airport funds.
Ogden stated the airport needs this improvement and it will benefit the businesses at the airport.
Council members also accepted a bid from Rugged Depot of Magnolia, Texas for computer equipment that will be installed in four Mena Police Department patrol vehicles. The amount of the bid was $17,533. It includes, four Toughbook computers, four printers, four Driver License readers, four LTE and GPS antennas, four mounting bases and firmware.
Police Chief Brandon Martin stated Rugged Depot was the same company that provided the computer equipment for the De Queen Police Department.
