The Mena City Council approved bids in a special called meeting Monday, August 26, for street overlay and milling projects.
Three bids were received for the overlay project. The contract was awarded to B&L Paving of Oden who bid $102/ton. Two other bids were received from McCormick Works of Ozark, who bid $118.10/ton, and Tri-State Construction Company of Lockesburg bidding $107.50/ton.
No bids were received after advertising for the milling so City officials contacted three companies for the milling of South Mena Street from Hwy 71 to Holly Street. The milling should lower the road an estimated six inches and officials are hopeful that will help to resolve flooding issues experienced by some of the local businesses in that area. An estimate from C.F. Stocks Excavating was submitted for the Council’s consideration to conduct the milling with City trucks removing the material at a cost of $11,741.70. The Council approved awarding the contract to C.F. Stocks Excavating on the conditions the job was bonded.
Streets scheduled for the overlay by B&L include South Mena Street from Hwy 71 to Holly Street and one block of 3rd Street between Port Arthur and Church Streets.
Repairs to three bridges, Pickering, Morrow and Petros, who sustained damage during the May flooding have already been made.
