Cotton Opposes Unlawful Obamacare Subsidies for Members of Congress and Staff

Washington, D.C. – Today Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) sent letters to both President Barack Obama and Office of Personnel Management Acting Director Elaine Kaplan to express his opposition to OPM’s decision to circumvent Obamacare’s requirements by unlawfully providing government health-care subsidies for Members of Congress and their staffs.

The Affordable Care Act does not provide OPM with the authority to pay premium subsidies for Members of Congress and staff who will be enrolled in health-care exchanges under the law. But the Obama administration recently announced a special exemption that would allow OPM to do so, a blatant display of political favoritism.
The letters go on to ask OPM to withdrawal this special exemption, leaving Members of Congress and their staffs to follow the same law that governs all Americans.
Text of the letters can be found here and here.
