Cotton Statement on the Growing Opposition to Obama’s Unilateral Nuclear Disarmament Agenda

Washington, D.C.— Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on reports that both key foreign partners and top Obama administration officials are pushing back against his plan to announce a unilateral “No First Use” policy, an unwise move that would undermine strategic stability and cause allies to question our extended nuclear deterrent:
“I am pleased to hear members of President Obama’s cabinet like Secretaries Kerry, Carter, and are Moniz are pushing back against his unwise and destabilizing proposed policy of a “No First Use” declaration.  We live in a dangerous world. Whether it’s Russia’s nuclear saber-rattling; numerous Iranian ballistic missile tests; or an unhinged North Korean leader with nuclear weapons – now is not the time to take actions that would cause both allies and adversaries to question our extended nuclear deterrent.  President Obama should listen to our allies, his top advisors, and the American people and immediately drop this radical policy change.”
