BY U.S. REPRESENTATIVE TOM COTTON –
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) released the following statement in response to recent reports that soldiers deployed to Afghanistan received letters informing them their service would no longer be needed when their deployments end:
“The men and women deployed overseas have left their homes and families to fight for our country. It’s deplorable the Obama administration would treat them this way. This action is yet another shameful display of President Obama’s disregard for our country’s warfighters.
“The House had already passed the annual military-funding bill before this situation came to light, otherwise I would’ve proposed an amendment to stop these reductions in the force. Fortunately, the Senate Appropriations Committee will consider the military-funding bill this week, and I urge the Senate to remedy this situation by prohibiting these reductions. To make things easy, I have drafted the amendment and urge my colleagues in the Senate to stand up for our military.”
