Edna Bernice Grossman, age 78, of Mena passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 in Mena.
Edna was born in Nashville, Arkansas on July 5, 1938 and passed from this life on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena, Arkansas. Her parents were Walter and Dovie Still McSwain.
She grew up in the Center Point and Rocky, Arkansas communities and graduated from Mena High School in 1956. She attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri where she studied sign language and business.
She worked as a secretary in Springfield, Missouri until her mother’s death when she returned to Mena. She worked as a tree planter, meter reader for REA, secretary for Mena Electric, and for the Union Bank of Mena.
She married Paul Grossman in 1981 and together they ran the Happy Acres store near Board Camp, Arkansas until Paul’s death in 1987.
She retired from US Motors and continued to live in her home beside the old store. Edna was an avid lover of photography and received recognition for her landscapes in several publications.
Having been raised during the depression, Edna was frugal in her lifestyle but shared generously with many deserving causes including many animal shelters and to agencies who cared for several Indian children homes. She adopted many cats and dogs who became the object of her love of photography and the center of her fur-family.
Edna was independent and believed in doing things herself and in her own way. She loved her animals, her quiet lifestyle and her 1964 Chevrolet Impala, which she still drove into Mena until her stroke in November 2015.
Edna is survived by her step-children, Paul Grossman, Mary Yahn, Patricia Lanser, Sandra Hartley, Jean Kirk and James Grossman; cousins, David Jones, Lillian Jones, Jane Thompson and Nancy Dooley; special friends, Johnye Terrell, Richard and Mary Ruth Martin, Dwight and Lori Goodner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral service will be Saturday, January 21, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood Chapel with Brother Britt Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocky Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Visitation will be General.
Pallbearers will be Billy Singleton, Travis Erickson, Robert Ferguson, Jonathan Cox, Chuck Cox, and Ralph Allen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Martin and Dwight Goodner.
