Ellender Lorene Williams

Mrs. Ellender Lorene Williams went to be with her Heavenly Father, Friday afternoon, July 11, 2014 to join her husband, sister and two brothers.

Lorene was born March 8, 1920 in Cove, Arkansas to David Roy Kelley and Emily Hampton-Kelley. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence “Shorty” Williams, a sister, Edna Eloise Kelley-Golden, two brothers, Olin Kelley and Quince Kelley.  Lorene and Shorty loved Mena, Arkansas. They owned and operated the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Mena.  They started their lives in a small general store and station in Hodgen, Oklahoma.  They moved to Mena and opened their first grocery store on Mena Street and later a larger store on DeQueen Street.  Thereafter building a new Piggly Wiggly store on Sherwood Street and later a new larger store on Seventh Street. They also owned the Union Bank for several years.

Lorene is survived by her nephew, Gerald Golden and wife Wendy of Fayetteville, Arkansas, a nephew Bill Kelley of Cove, Arkansas and several grand nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mena with Pastor Bill Billington officiating.   Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Tuesday evening, July 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Russell Blackburn, Andy Brown, David Gilbert, Gary Newcomb, Terry Thompson, and Leroy Walters.  Honorary pallbearers are Edwin “Buddy” Blackburn, Shelton Bohlman and Dalton Doughty.
