First Winter Weather of 2017 Moves In; CLOSINGS LISTED HERE

BY LEANN DILBECK – The first winter weather of 2017 moved into the area early Friday morning, causing all area schools to be closed, Friday, January 6.  Mena Public Schools, Ouachita River School District, Cossatot River School District and University of Arkansas – Rich Mountain all announcing closings for the day.

Light snow continues to fall and temperatures are not expected to get above freezing and wind chills are in the single digits. The area remains under a Winter Weather Advisory as snow bands continue to move across the area.

Business closings for Friday, January 6 so far are:

PCDC Adult Wellness & Education Center

PCDC Resale Store

Jumpstart DDS

Friendship House

Mena/Polk County Senior Center

Cossatot River Senior Center

Healthy Connections, Inc. (including Acorn campus)

Polk County Housing Authority

Mena Elks Lodge

Arkansas Community Correction – Adult Probation and Parole will open at 10 a.m.

Extension Homemakers meeting for Friday has been cancelled.

The Polk County Courthouse and Mena City Hall closed at 1:30 p.m.

Polk County Health Department closed at 1:30 p.m.

The Polk County DHS is closing at 1 p.m.

Sunshine House Daycare is closing at 2:30 p.m.

Country Cat Cafe is closing at 1:30 p.m.

Edward Jones is closing at 3 p.m.

Union Bank is closing at 4 p.m. and will not open on Saturday until 10 a.m.

American Legion will not have a dance Friday night.
