Gerald Ray McNew, age 82, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He was born September 5, 1936 in Ashland, Nebraska to the late Hobert James McNew and the late Blanche Albert McNew. Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was an Electronic Tech for Bell Helicopter by profession. Gerald was a faithful member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Mena. A favorite hobby of his was putting together model railroads, aircraft models and classic car models. He enjoyed taking care of his dogs, Hope and Buddy who was always by his side. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother and friend.
Gerald McNew is survived by: sons Daniel Ray McNew of The Colony, Texas, Timothy Lee McNew of Woodstock, Ohio, and Philip Alan McNew of Lewisville, Texas; daughters Kathryn Ann Philpot of Wolfe City, Texas, and Patricia Lynn Ragan of Denton, Texas; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and sister Rose Marie Bolton of Blair, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hobert and Blanche McNew, his wife, Jeanette McNew, a daughter, Barbara Barrett, and a brother Hobert J.”Toby” McNew, Jr.
Funeral service were held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Tim Harper and Brother Townsley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Family and friends visitation was held Friday, January 25, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Pallbearers were Stephen McNew, Chris McNew, Matt McNew, Abel Romo, Joshua Roma and Randy Acevedo.
