Hamlet will be Ouachita Little Theatre’s 2017 Fall production and auditions will be held the first week in June so that cast members will have the entire summer to learn their lines and prepare for the Shakespearean roles.
Hamlet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare around the turn of the 17th century. The play is set in Denmark where young Hamlet is plagued by his father’s ghost. His father, King Hamlet, was murdered by his own brother, Claudius, who then marries Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude. The play also includes a lovesick Ophelia who pines after Hamlet. The play has long been one of the most popular of Shakespeare’s works and still ranks among his most performed.
If you are interested in auditioning for Hamlet, there is no need to prepare ahead, the director, Brad Storey, will have excerpts of the play onsite for everyone. Audition times will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 1st and 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 3rd. Rehearsals will begin in August; performances in October.
