Jo Ella “Jo” Livin

Jo Ella “Jo” Livin, age 83, of Mena, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Mena, Arkansas.

Jo was born in Vandervoort, Arkansas on January 7, 1934 to the late Hal Cecil Barnes and Lutie Jane Barnes. Jo was a graduate of Cove High School. She relocated in Houston, Texas in 1952 and attended the University of Houston. There she met Ted Livin, whom she married in 1958 and enjoyed the next 59 years together in marriage with their two sons, Jeff and Greg. Jo enjoyed a number of passions in Life, including her love of baseball and following her beloved Houston Astros, gardening, and cooking, and entertaining with family and friends. Surviving the challenges of raising two sons, she has enjoyed following the exploits of their lives as their families grew. She and Ted relocated to Mena from Houston in 2001 to be closer to extended family, which they have truly appreciated over the past sixteen years. Jo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was a member of the Methodist faith her entire life, and belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Mena.

Jo is survived by her husband, Ted Livin; sons, Jeff Livin and wife Cindy of Lufkin, Texas, Greg Livin of Lakewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Cassidy Livin, Jessie Livin and Tanner Livin of Lufkin, Texas and Drew Livin and Sam Livin of Lakewood, Colorado. Jo is also survived by some very close extend family and friends that were truly considered “family” to her, Jerry and Gary Ryan of Mena, Moppy Billingsley of Mena, and Jennifer Hardegree of Mena, along with many others that were so meaningful to Jo in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hal and Lutie Barnes.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mena. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society in remembrance of Jo.
