Junior Bearcats Smash DeQueen


The Mena Junior Bearcats crushed the De Queen Junior Leopards 40-6 Thursday, September 1st at Bearcat Stadium.

Chris Bollmeyer jump started Mena with a 45 yard punt return to the DeQueen 2-yard line where Andrew Graves ran the ball into the end-zone on the next play. A successful two-point conversion put Mena in front 8-0.

DeQueen answered moments later with a 65 yard TD run to cut the Bearcat’s lead to 8-6.

Mena quarterback Zane Stevens scored touchdowns on runs of two-yards, seven-yards and again two-yards to power the Bearcats to a 20-6 lead at the half.

Stevens threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Devin Adams in the third quarter to extend the Bearcat’s lead to 32-6.

Mena’s Mason Brotherton owned the Leopards on their next possession, as the Bearcat defensive lineman blew up consecutive plays in the Leopard backfield and forced a fumble that was recoverd by Mena deep in DeQueen territory.

Andrew Graves powered into the endzone from the 2-yard line a few plays later. Max Montgomery ran in the two-point conversion to make the final score Mena 40, De Queen 6.

In Junior Bearcat JV action, the Mena eighth grade Bearcats thumped DeQueen 28-0 in the first game of the evening.

On Mena’s first offensive play from scrimmage, quarterback Max Montgomery dropped back and threw a deep pass down the near sideline to Chris Bollmeyer who caught the ball over his shoulder and sprinted to the endzone for a 74 yard touchdown play. Jake Wiles ran in the two-point conversion to put Mena on top 8-0.

Moments later, DeQueen threw a pass over the middle. Jake Wiles intercepted the pass and rumbled 34 yards for another Bearcat touchdown to lift Mena to a 14-0 advantage.

In the second quarter, Montgomery handed off to Wiles who broke a tackle in the backfield, reversed field and sprinted 77 yards for a touchdown. Montgomery completed a pass to Blake Castor for the two-point conversion to extend Mena’s lead to 22-0.

Finally, Montgomery completed a five-yard touchdown pass to Castor to make the final score Mena 28, DeQueen 0.

The Mena Junior Bearcats have an open date September 8th before hosting the Waldron Junior Bulldogs at 5:30 Thursday, September 15th.
