After a successful beginning this past Valentine’s Day, the Just 4 Fun Players are now preparing for another production. Tim Hesse, director, notes that seven members of the group have been practicing for John Patrick’s A Bad Year for Tomatoes. This comedy will be performed two evenings: Friday, September 29 and Saturday, October 7 at Mena Mountain Resort.
A Bad Year for Tomatoes is about an older, successful actress who moves to a small town to be away from ‘her public’ to have time to write her autobiography and fulfill a lifetime dream of growing tomatoes. She is successful in turning aside the offers pressed on her by her long-time agent, but dealing with her nosey, always-present neighbors is a different matter. In an attempt to shoo them away and gain some privacy, Myra invents a mad, homicidal sister, Sadie—who is kept locked in an upstairs room, but occasionally escapes long enough to scare off uninvited visitors. Between the local dim-witted handyman wanting to court the insane sister and the neighbors wanting to convert her, things go downhill. When Myra announces that her imaginary sister has gone off to the city, the neighbors believe Sadie has been murdered and the sheriff is called! This hilarious production will keep the audience laughing until the very end.
Cast include Denni Longoria as Myra/Sister Sadie; Michael Witt as Tom; Nancy Lewis portraying Cora Gump; and Miranda Brown as Reba Harper. Janelle Barnes will play Willa Mae Wilcox; Chris Beaver will be Piney and Leighanne Walker portrays the sheriff.
Admission of $25 includes dinner and the play. Reservations are necessary and may be made by calling Mena Mountain Resort at 479 394-3110. Just 4 Fun Players’ last performance was sold out days before the performance. Plan now to enjoy a delicious dinner and humorous entertainment!
