A twelve-year old juvenile is in custody following two cases of arson reported in Wickes and Cove in the last week. Polk County Sheriff Scott Sawyer said that the first fire occurred in Wickes on September 28 at 5:20 p.m. Polk County Dispatch received a call of a house on fire on Icy Lane. The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived and is a complete loss.
Grannis Police Department investigated the fire and considered it suspicious, the blaze had begun in an unoccupied bedroom of the home. Owners of the home, a husband and wife, are raising their grandson, and were the only residents living there. The fire displaced them and they began staying with other family members.
On October 9, a fire was called in to dispatch at that home, located at 6165 Hwy. 71 South, just after 9 a.m. That home was also fully involved when firefighters arrived and had also started in an unoccupied bedroom of the home. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation on that fire and subsequently arrested the couple’s twelve-year old grandson on two counts of Arson. He is currently in a juvenile facility awaiting court proceedings.
Residents of the second home on Hwy. 71, Branson and Kylie Provence, have had a benefit account set up at Union Bank to aid in recovering their loses.
