Saturday night, January 13th, the Cossatot Lady Eagles and Acorn Lady Tigers matched up in the girls’ championship game of the Cossatot River Sr. High Basketball Tournament.
The Lady Eagles came into Saturday’s game with tournament wins against Dierks (36-24) and Caddo Hills (43-29), as Acorn entered with wins over Horatio (59-40) and Nashville (63-46).
In a one-sided first quarter, the Lady Tigers of Acorn outscored the Lady Eagles 16-1, to take a fifteen point lead into the second quarter, Cossatot began to show up in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-7, to trail by only six, 26-20, at halftime.
At halftime, Tori Barett led Acorn with 8 points, as Raegan Richardson led the Lady Eagles with 7 points.
In the third quarter, the Lady Eagles took their first lead in the game, as there were four different lead changes, but with a Tori Barrett put-back with ten seconds left in the quarter, Acorn was able to take a two point, 36-34, lead into the final quarter of play.
Under a minute into the fourth quarter, Jade Richardson gave the Lady Eagles a quick 37-36 lead with a three pointer. Acorn was able to regain the lead thanks to a few free throws. Cossatot took their biggest lead of the game when Ashlen Gonzalez made a layup off of a steal, to make the score 44-41 in favor of the Lady Eagles. With exactly one minute left in the game, Makayla Anderson of Acorn tied the game up at 44-44, as she drained a three pointer. Then, with about twenty-five seconds remaining, Raegan Richardson scored the final points of the game on a short jumper in the lane, making the score 46-44 Cossatot. The Lady Tigers were fouled with two seconds left in the game, but missed both free throws, to make the final score 46-44 Lady Eagles.
Faith Hill was awarded Player of the Game for Acorn, as Jade Richardson was awarded Player of the Game for Lady Eagles.
Tori Barrett led the Acorn Lady Tigers with 14 points on the night, as Sophie Jackson scored 11 points, Makayla Anderson 9 points, Faith Hill 7 points, and Lexi Powell 3 points.
Raegan Richardson led the Cossatot River Lady Eagles with 16 points, while Jade Richardson added on 12 points of her own, Rhyen Martin 8 points, Ashlen Gonzalez 7 points, and Jacie Wilkerson 3 points.
Following the girls’ championship game, the Nashville Scrappers defeated the Dierks Outlaws 56-45 in the boys’ championship game.

The Cossatot Eagles were defeated 71-53 in the quarterfinals against Dierks, and the Acorn Tigers were knocked out in the semi-finals against Dierks, 67-55.
