Wednesday night, March 1st, the Acorn Lady Tigers took on the Omaha Lady Eagles in the second round of the 2017 1A Girls Basketball State Tournament at Mount Ida High School.
The Lady Tigers started the game off on an 8-0 run, before Omaha scored their first point via free throw with 2:13 left in the first quarter. Acorn went on to lead the Lady Eagles by ten, 15-5, through one. Omaha was forced to call a timeout with 5:05 left in the half, after the Lady Tigers started the second quarter on a 7-0 run. Following the timeout, the Lady Eagles outscored Acorn 9-6, to make the score 28-14 at halftime.
Number ten, Loffelt, led Omaha with 5 points at halftime, while Sophie Jackson led the Lady Tigers with 15 points.
Coming out of the locker room at halftime, the Lady Tigers scored eight points to Omaha’s two points, but in the last 4:25 in the third quarter, the Lady Eagles outscored Acorn 18-13, to make the score 45-29 going into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Omaha outscored the Lady Tigers 27-20, and pulled with five points with under a minute left in the game, but Acorn was hold onto their lead and defeat the Lady Trojans by nine points, 65-56.
Loffelt, number ten, led the Omaha Lady Eagles with 31 points, as McClellan added on 9 points, Arnold 6 points, Atchison 4 points, and Yocham and Withrow 3 points.
Sophie Jackson led the Acorn Lady Tigers with 28 points on the night, while Faith Hill scored 15 points of her own, Morgan Fagan 11 points, Brooke Bates 6 points, Tori Barrett 4 points, and Lexi Powell 1 points.
The Acorn Lady Tigers will take on the Bay Lady Yellowjackets on Friday at 4:00pm in the 1A Girls Basketball State Tournament Quarterfinals at Mount Ida High School. That game will be broadcast on KENA 104.1 and the KENA app.
