Lady Tigers Crowned District Champs, Boys Come in Third; Several Move on to State


The Acorn Lady Tigers Senior Track Team were crowned as the Class 1A-7 West District Champions a meet held in Mineral Springs on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. The Senior Boys placed third in their district competition held the same day. Several of Acorn’s athletes will move on to state competition being held this week.

Acorn’s Morgan Fagan took 1st place in the 800 meter run with Faith Hill coming in a close 2nd. Josey Webb took 4th in the event while Kendra Branson came in 5th. Both Fagan and Hill took 1st and 2nd in the 1,600 meter as well, with Makenna Goss coming in 3rd and Mercedes Mowdy in 4th. In the 3,200 meter run, Fagan again took 1st with Hill in 2nd, Branson in 3rd, and Goss in 4th.

In the 100 meter dash, Allie Strothers took 5th and Mindy Hibbs came in 6th. Sophie Jackson got 3rd in the 200 meter dash with Sydeny Crawford in 5th, Hibbs in 7th, and Shianne Johns in 8th. Hill took 2nd in the 400 meter dash, Fagan pulled in 3rd, Alli Strothers in 4th, and Makayla Anderson in 6th.

Mindy Hibbs took 4th in the 100 meter hurdles, while Braxlie Strother placed 6th and Shianne Johns 7th. In 300 meter hurdles, Jackson took 3rd, Hibbs 4th, and B. Strother in 5th.

In relay races, the 4×800 team took 1st, and the 4×100 and 4×400 both took 3rd place.

In high jump, Jackson placed 2nd, B. Strother 3rd, Fagan 4th, and Crawford 6th. Makayla Anderson took 5th in long jump, with Fagan in 6th. B. Strother placed 5th in the triple jump, Andernson 6th, Hibbs 7th, and Crawford 8th place.

Tori Barrett placed 1st in discus. Jackson placed 3rd in the event, Madison Andrews plaed 5th, and Elizabeth Hachtel took 6th. Barrett placed 2nd in shot put, Hachtel placed 6th, and Hill took 8th.

The senior boys also brought home several ribbons from the district meet. Their 4×800 team took 1st place and their 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams each placed 3rd.

Nathan Chaney pulled in 5th in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Kacey Head took 6th in the 200, with Will Monk coming in 8th. Head took 6th in the 400 meter as well.

Chad Sutton placed 5th in the 800 meter and Majjor White came in right behind in 6th. Adam Hughes took 2nd place in the 1,600, Jesse McDonald 4th, Brady Lyle 6th, and Chad Sutton 7th. Lyle also placed 2nd in the 3,200 meter, McDonald 3rd, Jon O’Donal 4th, and Sutton in 7th.

Kobe Hogan grabbed 4th in the 110 meter hurdles, Logan Frost pulled in 6th, Matthew Chaney 7th, and Jacob Moore 8th. Hogan took 4th in the 300 meter hurdles as well, with Frost in 5th, Moore in 6th, and Jack Young coming in 8th.

In high jump, Will Monk placed 5th, Aaron Baker 6th, and William Hicks in 7th. Brian Kha took 6th in long jump, Monk took 8th. In triple jump, Monk placed 5th, Baker 6th, and Sutton 7th.

Monk also placed 5th in pole vault, Kha placed 6th, and Dylan Hayner placed 7th. William Hicks took 5th in discus and 8th in shot put.

All athletes placing 1st or 2nd in any event moves on to the Class 1/2A State Track Championship Meet to be held on Tuesday, May 1, in Conway at Hendrix College.
