Last Wednesday, February 28th, the Acorn senior girls and senior boys basketball team competed in the second round of the 1A State Basketball Tournament at Morrilton, after first round byes. Both teams, coincidentally, took on the Mount Vernon-Enola Warhawks and Lady Warhawks.
In the girls game, after a close knit first quarter, decided by over five points, Mount Vernon-Enola went on to outscore the Lady Tigers by nine in the second, 22-13, to take a fourteen point, 35-21, lead into halftime. In a similar second half, the Lady Warhawks outscored Acorn 38-28, to win the game by twenty-four, 73-49.
The Lady Tigers finish their season with a record of 27-8. Congratulations to Coach Jackson, seniors: Faith Hill and Tori Barrett, and the rest of the Acorn Lady Tigers on a great season.
In the following game, the Acorn senior boys took on Mount Vernon-Enola. The Tigers look a four point lead going into the second, 14-10, and after an even scored second quarter, at eighteen points a piece, Acorn contained their lead into halftime, 32-28. Acorn just narrowly held onto their lead in the third, as the Warhawks outscored the Tigers 19-16, to make the score 48-47 going into the fourth. In an unpleasant fourth quarter, Mount Vernon-Enola outscored the Tigers 29-11, to go onto win the game by seventeen, 76-59.
The Tigers finish their season with a 22-13 record. Congratulations to Coach Ledbetter, seniors: Cross Hughes and Dylan Hayner, and the remaining Acorn Tigers on a successful season.
Both the Lady Tigers and Tigers were crowned District and Regionals Runner-Ups earlier in the season.
