Ladycats Drop Home Opener To Booneville


Mena Volleyball hosted the Booneville Ladycats at the Union Bank Center on Tuesday, August 29th, for their first home game of the 2017 season.

To kick off Tuesday night’s action, Mena’s Junior High JV team took the court for their best-of-three match, and scored the first fifteen points of the first set before Booneville even scored. Mena went on to win the first set 25-5, but fell short in the second 12-25, forcing a third set. After a back-and-forth start, the Ladycats of Mena took the third 15-6, and won the match 2-1.

Capping off the nights Junior High games, the Junior High Varsity Ladycats looked to defend their home court against Booneville. In the first set, Mena took an early lead, but allowed Booneville to gain a bit of traction, forcing the hometown team to call a timeout with the score at 16-14. Following their timeout, the Ladycats of Mena ended the first set on a 9-1 run, winning the set by a score of 25-15. Not much changed in the second set, as Mena took an early lead and never looked back, taking set number two 25-14, and winning the match 2-0.

For the finale on Tuesday night, the Senior High Varsity teams of Booneville and Mena took the court for their best-three-sets-of-five match. In set number one, both teams stayed close together until late, when Booneville reached a five point lead, forcing Mena to call a timeout with the score 17-22. Following the timeout, Mena went on to tie it up at 24-24, and later win the set 26-24 on three straight scores. In set two of the match, both teams went back-and-forth until the game hit 17-17, then Booneville went on an 8-2 run to win the set 25-19. Booneville took an early lead in set number three of the match and never turned back, grabbing up to an eight point lead, and finally winning the set 25-20. In what turned out to be the final set of the night, set number four, Mena was unable to keep it close with Booneville any longer, losing the set 25-16, and the match 3-1.

The Mena Ladycats will play their next game on Thursday, August 31st, against Paris at the Union Back Center on campus of Mena High School.
