Ladycats Sweep Hackett


Monday night, September 11th, Mena Volleyball hosted the Lady Hornets of Hackett in the Union Bank Center.

Following a few eight-minute periods of play by the seventh grade volleyball teams, the Mena Junior High Varsity Ladycats took the court to kickoff the nights official games. In the first set of their match against Hackett, the Junior Ladycats were able to stay close with the Lady Hornets and come back from a 20-24 deficit, to eventually win the set 26-24. In another closely knit set, Hackett forced a tie-breaker by defeating the Junior Ladycats 25-22 in the second set. The Lady Hornets won the first few points of the third set, and won the tie-breaker 10-15. Winning the match against the Junior Ladycats, 2-1.

In the second match of the night, Mena’s Senior High Junior Varsity team took the court to take on the Lady Hornets. In the first set of the match, both teams kept it close, going back in fourth, but the Ladycats battled for a two-point lead and won the set 25-23. The Ladycats had no problem scoring at all in the second set, as Mena took an early lead and ended up winning the set by nine, 25-16, defeating the Senior High Junior Varsity Lady Hornets 2-0.

For the finale match of the night, the Senior High Varsity Ladycats took the court to take on Hackett. Mena started the first set on a 10-0 run, before the Lady Hornets were able to score. The Ladycats held onto their lead, and took the first set by a score of 25-11. In the second set, both teams kept it close to start, however, Mena was able to pull away and win the set 25-19. The Ladycats didn’t let up at all, in what ended up being the final set of the night, as Mena pulled away early on and won the set 25-13, sweeping the Lady Hornets 3-0.

On Tuesday, the Ladycats traveled to Mansfield to take on the Tigers, but will be back playing in the Union Bank Center on Thursday, September 14. The Mena 7th grade team, along with the Junior High JV, Junior High V, Senior High JV, and Senior High V will all play host to the Lavaca Lady Arrows. First serve is set to be at 4:00pm.
