Mary Poppins opens this weekend at the Ouachita Little Theatre, 610 Mena Street, in Mena. The curtain will open to the home of Jane and Michael Banks, two children in need of a new nanny, as they keep running the others off. Mary Poppins has long been a favored treasure of generations of children and adults alike, and the local production is sure to be as pleasing as the movie.
The cast is packed full of old and new players to the theatre. OLT President, and director of Mary Poppins, Rudi Timmerman said, “The cast consists of 50 talented local folks ranging in age from 7 to 80, a true measure of a community theatre.”
Brakiah Burk is making her OLT debut as Jane Banks and Robby Burt will join as Michael Banks, the two children in need of a nanny. Lana Coogan and Jerod McPherson will play Mary Poppins and Bert. Scott O’Rear and Jennifer McPherson will play George and Winifred Banks, parents of Jane and Michael.
“OLT has become known for its cleaver use of set pieces – this show is no exception. The audience will be amazed as a simple stage changes from roof top, to parlor to nursery, to a park, and to bank as well as several more,” Timmerman said. The artwork on the set has been designed and completed by Lorraine Timmerman and Jim Brace.
Advance tickets are on sale now at the theatre as well as tickets for a dinner theatre on Thursday being held in conjunction with American Artisans.
