Mena Bearcat Band Wins The Sweepstakes Award

Every year bands all across the state compete for the honor of being ranked as a Sweepstakes Band, the highest award a band can receive in Arkansas.  To become a Sweepstakes Band a high school band must compete at a Region Marching contest and receive a 1st division Superior rating in the fall.  In the spring, the band must compete at Concert and Sightreading Assessment and receive a 1st division in concert band performance and sightreading.  In sightreading, the band prepares a new piece of music in seven minutes and then performs that song for a judge.  This year the Mena High School Band received 1st division superior ratings at every contest they attended, earning them the ranking of Sweepstakes Band. The Mena High School Band is taught by Charles Morgan.
