BY APRIL ROSE –
On Saturday, October 7th, the Mena Bearcat Marching Band took part in the “Showcase of Bands” at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The Bearcat Band received highest ratings in all four categories: drumline, color guard, drum major abilities and overall performance. Drum major Brynn Harvey received the top drum major award for the class 3A division.
This year’s show “Quidam”, themed from Circ du Soliel, includes songs Admaja, Ninkou Latora, Quidam and Incantation. The marching show had previously been performed by Arkansas Tech University in 2005.
“The band has put in a lot of effort to perform a show of this caliber. They surprise me every day by how much we’ve accomplished. We still have a lot of work before our regional assessment, but I have no doubt that we’ll do great,” said Charles Morgan, the Mena High School band director.
The Bearcat Band will perform at the region VIII assessment on October 17th at Alma High School. “The Showcase of Bands is a great contest to prepare us for our region competition. The stadium’s size gives students a feel of what it’s like to perform for a large crowd,” Josh Bradford, the Mena Middle School band director said. “It’s an exciting atmosphere for the students and hopefully we’ll continue to improve from here.”
