Mena Moving Forward with Main Street Arkansas Program Application

The Mena Downtown Partners group recently met with representatives from the Arkansas Main Street program to discuss plans for Mena to join the program to help preserve the history of and promote downtown Mena. About two dozen people representing downtown businesses, civic and government leaders attended the meeting at American Artisans on Mena Street. Greg Phillips is the executive director of the program, which is part of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, and he told the Mena group that Mena’s application for membership in the program would be considered in April or May along with others that he expects to be submitted. The City of Mena has agreed to pay the dues for the first three years if Mena is accepted into the program. Susan Shaddox, who is an interior design consultant with Main Street Arkansas, shared some of the services she can provide to businesses, in addition to the other services outlined by Phillips.
