Wednesday, February 5, 2014, inmate Anthony Michael Robertson appeared in court before Circuit Judge Jake Looney. After that appearance, while being handcuffed to be returned to his cell, Robertson forced his way past the officer and fled from the courthouse.
Robertson then shed his orange jail clothing behind the Masonic Lodge on Port Arthur Street. He was then wearing only white thermal underwear. Robertson ran across Janssen Park, and at some point, took a bicycle.
Law enforcement observed Robertson riding the bicycle across Mena Street. They pursued him north on Second Street where he ditched the bicycle and took off on foot. Chief Deputy Scott Sawyer was able to catch Robertson on foot and tackle him.
Robertson continued to resist aggressively, but was finally subdued by Chief Deputy Sawyer. He was then transported to the Polk County Detention Facility. Robertson will be additionally charged with Class B Felony Escape, Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. He was currently being held at the Polk County Detention Facility on charges of Aggravated Robbery, Theft and Theft of Property.
Sheriff Godfrey would like to thank Mena Police Department for their assistance in catching the fugitive.
