Michael Benjamin Chance Smith, age 17, of Jacksonville, Florida, formally of Mena, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 in a vehicle accident in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born Saturday, December 7, 1996 to Michael David and Amanda Gale Newton Smith in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
Michael attended Mena High School for several years, but always wanted to have a job and go to work. He decided he would get his GED and started working full time. Then he returned to Florida to start his career in construction with Grey’s and Associates in Jacksonville, Florida. Michael had many strong bonds in his life but his deepest and strongest bond was with his twin sister, Beth. He would always tell her she was his favorite “Womb Mate”. He also enjoyed shake boarding and fishing. Michael was a loving son, brother, grandson, and friends and he will be greatly missed by all.
Michael is survived his father Michael Smith of Malone, Florida; his mother Amanda Smith of Mena; two sisters Beth Smith of Mena and Savanna Stafford of Mena; maternal grandmother Beverly Bolton of Mena; maternal great grandmother Mary Harp of Mena; paternal grandparents Dale and Peggy Rogers of Jacksonville, Florida; uncles Robert Raker of Mena, David Flora of Mena and Joe Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A candlelight vigil will be held Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. at McMillan Park in Mena. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Northside Church of Christ in Mena with Ken Sayers officiating. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
