Non-Stop Fitness – Your Physical Step to Success

In a fast paced and busy society, where time is never on one’s side, it is very easy to let personal health and fitness go to the wayside.  Dustin and Shawna Powell saw a need for a fitness facility in Polk County that would allow its members to work out anytime they can fit it into their schedule, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty-five days a year.  In January of 2015, Non- Stop Fitness opened at 1142 Highway 71 South, Suite A in Mena and the crowd was waiting for them.  “That first night, I had a line to the door.  I think we signed up at least 150 that night.  The response has been amazing and we are thankful,” said Shawna.

dustin-and-shawna-cmykDustin and Shawna are high school sweethearts who married in July of 2006, just after they graduated from Acorn High School.  Together they have a 20 month-old daughter, Albany.  “The best way to describe our marriage is that old saying, ‘don’t cry over spilled milk,’ we pick our battles and laugh as much as possible.   Albany has made life even better, I couldn’t imagine it without her,” said Shawna.

Dustin and Shawna are a true team, with Dustin running the fitness and people part of the gym, while Shawna, who also works for Union Bank of Mena, runs the business side.  Dustin comes from a family dedicated to fitness and planned for years to open a 24-hour fitness center.  “We have a spacious weight room with full cardio, a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) room, stretch room, locker rooms with showers and towels that we provide, a tanning bed, and my sister offers spray tans that members receive a discount on. We sell supplements and offer personal training with custom made workout plans,” explained Dustin.

Non-Stop Fitness also works with Sarah Renick, ISSA Personal Trainer and Award Winning Figure Competitor, to offer a high intensity interval training class to members, for an additional fee.  Currently, Renick’s class meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 8:15 and on Tuesday and Thursdays at 5 am, 4 pm, and 5 pm.  Each class lasts for one hour.  “I incorporate strength training and cardio, with high reps and low weight. We burn calories and create lean muscles to lose weight,” explained Renick.  In addition to her group classes, Renick offers one-on-one personal training, which she tailors to the exact need of her client.  “I meet with each individual and base their training on what they are looking for, whether weight loss, or to build muscle, or to become faster, stronger, and be able to jump higher.  I try to figure out what they want and make sure they want it for the right reasons, for themselves and no one else, and determine how to train them.  I believe that if something doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.  Non-Stop Fitness is such a nice facility with a quiet atmosphere.  I love that about it and they have given me the opportunity to teach my classes and do what I’ve always wanted to do, which is to help people,” said Renick.  To reach Renick, call 479.234.3620 or email rah-rah10@hotmail.com.

“We want to help our members reach their personal health and weight loss goals and we want them to think of us as a family and know that we want to be a part of their fitness journey and that we are going to stick with them throughout it,” explained Shawna.  “Yes, too many gyms have a select few real members that they really work with and the rest kind of fall to the wayside, we try to keep everyone talking and keep the atmosphere friendly, that’s such a big part of the gym for me,” added Dustin.

“We think Polk County is a great place to raise a family.  Mena has a great school system and we know that Albany isn’t going to lack any opportunity.  It’s a great area,” said Shawna.
