OLT to Hold Auditions for Two Events

BY LARRY BLOCK –

The Ouachita Little Theatre (OLT) is beginning to prepare for its 2014 season. December is the month when auditions for two events, January’s The OLT Goes Dancing 2014, and the first play of the year, to be performed in February, Murder In the Magnolias, directed by Jennifer Ogger, the OLT choreographer, and Tim Hesse OLT president, respectively, will be held.

Auditions for The OLT Goes Dancing 2014 will occur on Tuesday, December 17, at 6 PM at the theater at 610 Mena St. Anyone who has any kind of dance number they wish to perform, is very welcome to audition. Ogger will be assisted at these auditions by Vivian Bartow, owner of Viviana’s Dance Studio, and OLT Board member, Sandy Brooks, former Las Vegas showgirl/dancer.

Auditions for Murder In the Magnolias will take place on December 5, from 6 to 9 PM, and December 7, from 10 AM to noon. It is a comedy written by Tim Kelly, a television writer who wrote for shows like the Carol Burnett Show. He wrote over 300 plays. This one is a parody of every Southern play and movie people may have heard of from Gone With the Wind to Tennessee Williams. There are parts for high school age people and up.

“The main thing I want people to know is that this play will be a workshop, as well as just a play,” said Hesse. “It is totally free! We have noticed that many people are really interested in how a play comes together, but don’t necessarily want to perform a role or be on a stage crew. We will rehearse Monday, Tuesday, Thursday nights from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in January. The Monday night session will be cast members but also the “workshop” people in which we will give out assignments and workshop scenes from the play. The Tuesday and Thursday sessions will be working with the cast but the workshop people are encouraged to attend and learn as well. Everyone interested in the workshop will come to the auditions and fill out a form stating if they would like to participate in the workshop portion of the play,” he went on to say.

Performances will be Valentines Day, February 14, at Mena Mountain Resort. Then the following 2 weekends will be at the OLT February 21, 22, 23 and February 28, March 1, and March 2. For more information visit the OLT website www.oltmena.com or called the OLT Info Line at (479) 243-0186.
