Christmas is coming and the City of Mena is preparing early for their annual Lighting of the Park. The Parks Department began the long, arduous task of setting up the large display that covers Janssen Park, in the heart of the City, as well as a display in front of the historic Mena Depot on Highway 71.
This will mark the 22nd year of the display that covers the park. Much of the display was donated from Jennings Osborne, a man who, in 1995, had a huge and yet controversial display of Christmas lights at his home in Little Rock. Osborne made the decision to “downsize” and share it with communities throughout Arkansas and chose Mena as a beneficiary. The city adds to the display each year. This year’s annual Lighting of the Park will follow the Mena Christmas Parade on December 2nd.
