The Cossatot River Eagles Baseball team started their 2019 season off in a huge way with a lopsided victory over Mineral Springs on March 6th, 25-3. The Eagles continued their winning ways over Caddo Hills on Friday, March 8th, with a 12-4 win. The Eagles was scheduled to host Trinity Christian of Texarkana on Friday, March 15th. But, that game was cancelled due to the Mumps outbreak in the district.
The Cossatot River Eagles Softball team has busted out with a perfect 2-0 record on the 2019 campaign after thrashing the Lady Hornets of Mineral Springs on Wednesday, March 6th, with a 25-1 win. Then, two days later, the Lady Eagles soared to a 11-0 victory over the Indians of Caddo Hills. Tuesday, March 12th, the Mena LadyCats were scheduled to be the next opponent, but due to a Mumps outbreak in the Cossatot School District, school was cancelled, along with all sporting events.
The Mount Ida Lions Baseball team has struggled since the beginning of the season in late February. The Lions latest setback came at the hands of Ouachita, by the score of 18-8 on Tuesday, March 5th. Then, the Lions hosted the Mena BearCats and found out that the bats can get things going early in the game. The Lions scored four runs in the 1st inning and scored another run in the 4th inning and two more insurance runs in the 5th, to ensure a 7-4 win. That victory was the team’s first win of the season. Monday, March 11th, the Lions faced Caddo Hills and cruised to a 13-3 win over the Indians. Tuesday, March 12th, the Lions traveled to Mountain Pine for non conference action and will now wait to travel to Dierks on Monday, March 25th.
The Mount Ida Lady Lions Softball team entered the 2019 season with four straight victories. Winning over Mena 7-3, Fountain Lake 4-2, and concluding with two victories in the Payen Tournament. The first over Woodlawn (Rison) 6-0, and Bearden, 13-4. Their first loss of the season came against Payen on Friday, March 8th with a 18-0 shellacking. All of those runs came in the 5th inning. Then, on Tuesday, March 12th, the Lady Lions squad traveled to Mountain Pine for a non conference matchup and returns home on Thursday, March 14th with a matchup against Warren.
The Acorn Tigers Baseball team started the 2019 season off with a disappointing 22-4 loss at the hands of the Indians of Caddo Hills. Caddo Hills jumped out to a 9-0 lead going into the bottom of the 2nd inning before getting on the board. Caddo Hills scored two more runs in the top of the 4th inning and then sealed the victory with 11 more runs in the top of the 5th inning. Acorn then hosted Talihina, Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 12th and will hit the road for a trip to Foreman on Monday, March 25th.
The Acorn Lady Tigers Softball team lost 14-9 at the hands of the Booneville Bearcats on Thursday, March 7th in Acorn. The Lady Tigers hosted Waldron on Monday, March 11th and lost 13-2. The Lady Tigers then hit the road to Texarkana and Genoa Central High School on Tuesday. Next up for the Lady Tigers will be the Indians of Caddo Hills on Friday, March 15th.
The Mena BearCats Baseball team played four games in six days and lost their first two matchups against Mount Ida and Malvern. Malvern defeated Mena by the score of 13-3. On Monday, March 11th, Mena were to have traveled to Murfreesboro, but that contest was cancelled. Then, the BearCats were to have hosted Horatio yesterday. But due to poor field conditions, the game was switched to Horatio . The BearCats next matchup comes on Friday, March 15th, when they travel to Bauxite.
The Mena LadyCats Softball team started last week with a 9-6 victory over Hope, before dropping the next two games to Dierks, 7-3, and to the Lady Leopards of Malvern, 11-4. Tuesday, March 12th, the LadyCats softball squad were to have hosted the Cossatot River squad, but due to the Mumps outbreak and to prevent the potential spreading and was cancelled. Wednesday, March 13th, the LadyCats will host Ashdown, before hitting the road on Friday, March 15th to face Bauxite.
