Retirement Party for Acorn Teachers

More than fifty friends, colleagues and family members gathered after school on May 22 for picnic honoring retiring Acorn teachers Dan Caron and Sallie Kieren. Hamburgers and Fixins were funded by the Arkansas Beef Grant and prepared by Acorn FACS classes. High school staff members brought side dishes. Huge thanks to Janice Williams, John Hawkins, Jared Standridge, and Tori Young for going the extra mile to make this happen. Mr. Caron’s daughter, Ashley, surprised him by attending from Little Rock. Both Dan and Sallie spoke briefly about their years at Acorn. Michelle Kimp McGee ,Shannon Lyle and Erica Goss presented a humorous PowerPoint for the retirees. Wonderful food and fellowship was enjoyed by all in attendance. After the meal, the Acorn CTE Advisory Committee met briefly in Mr. Caron’s classroom, where Kristen Haggard, newly hired Acorn Business teacher was introduced and Acorn CTE programs were summmarized. Several advisory members made comments or suggestions of ways to improve programs for our students.
