Robert Otto “Bob” Schanink

Robert Otto “Bob” Schanink, age 90, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Polk County, Arkansas.

He was born October 3, 1926, in Lake County, South Dakota to Ernest and Sadie Abrahamson Schanink.  He served in the Army beginning in 1944 until honorably discharged after World War II.  After returning from Germany, he worked as a carpenter until he retired.  He enjoyed health matters, gardening, fishing, and was very proud of the carpenter work he did for his church.  He also enjoyed his time with friends at the Senior Citizen’s lunch everyday, walking his dog 2 miles daily, and studying his bible.

Survivors are wife, Twila Ann Skinner Schanink of Mena, Arkansas; sons, Gerald Schanink and wife Jeannie of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Daniel Ray Schanink and wife Cynthia of Dardanelle, Arkansas; daughters, Janice Winnes and husband David of Caledonia, Minnesota, Constance Osterlitz and husband Barry of Phoenix, Arizona,

Judy Fryar and husband Wayne of Mena, Arkansas, Sonja Barnard and husband Jon of Tualatin, Oregon; brother, Alfred Schanink of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 21 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great, Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sadie Schanink, a sister, Ruth Schanink Skyberg, his first wife, Mavis Rogers Schanink, and his grandson, James Winnes.

Pallbearers are Travis Schanink, Ken Goodwin, Rodney Dominguez, Gary Floyd, Kyle Robertson, and Richard Pena. Honorary Pallbearer is Robin Weddle.

Funeral service will be Thursday September 7, 2017 at 10 A.M. at the First Baptist Church with Brother Russell Threet officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday September 8, 2017 from 5 to 8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Polk County Senior Center.
