Just as the Ouachita Little Theatre (OLT) concluded its Fall mystery, Dial M for Murder, it is time for the OLT’s quarterly live local musical entertainment show, Saturday Night At The Lyric (SNL). SNL returns to the stage this Saturday night, November 9, at 7:30 PM. It will contain a variety of live local entertainment, hosted by longtime OLT organizer, and former OLT Board President, Jay Rodgers. Tickets are $5, available only at the door, starting at 6:45 PM.
SNL is a long time OLT tradition. It dates back to when the OLT was the Lyric movie theater, starting back in 1923. Local entertainers would gather on the sidewalk in front of the theater, on Saturday nights, and perform for moviegoers as they left the theater, earning a small amount of money by “passing the hat.” Of course, today SNL has moved inside, onto the theater stage. The income generated by the $5 attendance charge, is used for the maintenance of the building, as well as upcoming construction for dressing rooms and a set-building shop, at the back of the building.
All new to the OLT stage performers, this time include Mena native, Chase Alley, and recent residents Tommy Stanko, and “Brant.” Appearing from Fort Smith is Peter Lippincott, as well as the Olde Lyric Players, the OLT’s readers theater group, doing some short skits. All of the accomplished musical performers both write and perform their own songs, in addition to “covering“ popular songs by well-known performers.
It is going to be a great show for the whole family, carrying on an entertainment tradition in Mena. For more information visit the OLT website, www.oltmena.com or call the OLT info line at (479) 243-0186.
