A fundraiser is being held on Friday, February 24th for the Mena/Polk County Senior Center. The center provides meals and activities five days a week to area senior citizens and appreciate the community’s support. Organizers hope attendees will truly enjoy watching Blithe Spirit while raising money for a worthy cause.
Blithe Spirit is a comedic play written by Noel Coward. The play tells the story of socialite and novelist, Charles Condomine (played by Tim Hesse), who invites the eccentric and clairvoyant medium, Madame Arcati (Denni Longoria), to his house in the hope that he can gather material and ‘appropriate jargon’ for his next book. The séance is conducted and seems to be a complete failure until Charles discovers that during the session, the spiritualist has somehow returned the ghost of his first wife, occasionally temperamental and always sultry, Elvira (Janelle Barnes). It becomes apparent very quickly that his second wife, efficient and down-to-earth Ruth (Cheyenne Mayfield), cannot see or hear this alluring ghost. In fact, Charles is the only one who can and he begins to doubt his sanity. Also in the cast are the Condomine’s eager-to-please young maid, Edith (Miranda Brown) and neighbors and séance participants, Dr. Bradman (T. J. Thompson) and Mrs. Bradman (Leighanne Walker).
The play was performed at Mena Mountain Resort on Valentine’s Day to a sold-out crowd. You can catch it again at Mena Mountain Resort on Friday, February 24th, at 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Senior Center.
Cost is $10 per person and $8 for seniors age 60-plus. All proceeds will benefit the Mena/Polk County Senior Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
