Sheriff’s Department Issues New Scam Alert Warning

[MENA] Polk County Sheriff Mike Godfrey has issued another scam alert for area residents.

His department is encouraging everyone to be very cautious when giving out any information over the phone.  “If anyone asks you to go to a convenience store, a retail store, or a bank to purchase a Green Dot card, a prepaid credit card, or any kind of card that has money attached to it, so that you may give them a number and make a payment over the phone, it is most likely a SCAM.”

There are many different types of schemes that operate in this manner.  “Be sure that you know exactly who you are dealing with whenever you are making any kind of payment by phone.  If someone calls you to tell you that there is a warrant for your arrest, be aware that the Sheriff’s Office does not operate in that manner.  Please pay attention.  If you have any questions or concerns, call the Sheriff’s Office at 479-394-2511.  Do not be a victim. Ask questions. Know who you are dealing with!”
