Work has begun on the site that will serve as the new location for Polk County’s Department of Human Services (DHS). The site sits on the corner of Hwy. 71 and Industrial Park Road in Mena and is currently in the ‘dirt work’ stage of development, with completion dates being weather dependent.
Danny Powell, who owns the land specified, will build an 8,000 sq. ft. facility, which will be leased to the government agency to house the offices of case workers that serve the area.
Carolyn Strickland, Administrator at the local DHS office that is currently located in the Polk County Office Complex, also known as the ‘old hospital,’ at 606 Pine Street, explained that they have simply outgrown the location and need more space, both inside and outside. Brandy Hinkle, Deputy Chief of Communications, Arkansas Department of Human Services, said the Division of Building Authority through the Department of Finance and Administration is currently working with the site owner to complete a lease agreement with DHS.
