Tyrone Lewis, age 74 of Cove, passed away in his home, on October 28, 2013, following a long illness. He was born in Mena, Arkansas, on November 29, 1938 to Paul and Wynogene Lewis.
A graduate of Mena High School, Mr. Lewis was the owner of Lewis Lumber Company, of Cove, and was also an internationally known fine artist. He attended the University of Arkansas, and was a graduate of the Memphis College of Fine Arts, where he met and married Barbara Sutherland, and earned his BFA degree in painting. For many years, his paintings have been represented by galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Scottsdale, Arizona; Atlanta, Georgia; and Hot Springs, Arkansas, and hang in many collections, worldwide, including that of royalty.
Mr. Lewis was a lifetime member of Southwest Artist in Mena. His wishes, and that of his family, is that donations be made in lieu of flowers to either Southwest Artist, through the Mena Art Gallery, or the American Cancer Society. Survivors include his mother Mrs. Wynogene Lewis; his sister Patricia Gilbert; his wife Barbara Lewis; daughters Whitney Espinoza, Fielding Ghigo, and Alexis Lewis; grandson’s Trey Mahoney, Jordan Christensen, Isaac Ghigo, and Sundash Ramos; great grandson’s Loki Christensen, and Ebin Miner; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Stephen Divers and his staff for the great care that was provided to Mr. Lewis during his illness.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Grace Bible Fellowship Hall with Brother Scott Jones officiating. Cremation arrangements are being made through Beasley-Wood.
