Virginia Pauline Ferguson, age 95, of Mena, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Mena Regional Health System. She was born on Monday, January 9, 1922 to James Clarence and Mary Jewell Garrison McMellon in Baker Springs, Arkansas.
Virginia was a member of the Salem Baptist Church for seventy years and served as church secretary and Sunday school teacher. She led her life by the bible and raising her children in the church and knowing that they were all saved were very important to her. Virginia was united in marriage to Roy Ferguson on Saturday, June 6, 1942. She worked as a Dietician at Mena Medical Center from 1975 to 1989. Virginia loved to garden, sew, crochet, canning, and piecing quilts together. She was very proud to be working at the age of 50. She was also a member of the Pine Hill Home Demonstration Club. Virginia loved life and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Virginia was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Ferguson and her six brothers, Dayton McMellon, Winton McMellon, J.C. McMellon, Harold McMellon, Arlon McMellon, and Jerry McMellon.
Virginia is survived by her three sons and daughters in law, Travis and Pam Ferguson of Mena, Bob and Deanna Ferguson of Mena, and Dennis and Mary Ferguson of Mena; four daughters and sons in law, Sharon and Larry Liles of Mena, Debbie and Wayne Pate of Mena, Rhonda and Don Dennis of Mena, and Tammy and Eric Hughes of Mena; her brother, Jimmy McMellon of Mena; one sister, Betty Brown of Mena; twenty grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Salem Baptist Church in Nunley with Brother Jack Schoeppey officiating. Interment will follow at the Nunley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. until the service begins at 2:00 P.M. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
Pallbearers will be Scott Liles, Craig Ferguson, Roy Ferguson, Jerin Ferguson, Kyle Ferguson, Donnie Ferguson, James Ferguson, Nicholas Pate, Todd Smith, Tyler Dennis, and Cross Hughes.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Mena Senior Center at 401 Autumn Drive, Mena, AR 71953, and Clarice’s Room of Hope at 403 Morrow Street, Mena, AR, 71953.
