Mr. William Jackson Barnes, age 89, of Mena, Arkansas joined his wife Jane in eternal rest on Friday, January 20, 2017 in Mena, Arkansas.
He was born September 2, 1927 in Mena, Arkansas, to the late Harvey Love Barnes and Ella Gertrude Keller Barnes. Jack owned and operated Mena Auto Supply and Southwest Outdoor Power until his retirement, but he wore many hats. He was a certified diver with the local search and rescue, and was instrumental in helping to set up the Civil Defense and Volunteer Fire Department in Polk County; he did his own vehicle restoration, and did woodworking. Jack was in the Talimena Drive Band, among others where he played the steel guitar, and he built his own ski boat and enjoyed spending summers with his family at Lake Ouachita. His favorite past time was teaching his skills to others and to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather and a friend to many.
He is survived by children, Beverly Anglin and husband William of Mena, Arkansas, Earline Sorrells and husband Sam of Russellville, Arkansas, Betty Acheson and husband Ron of Mena, Arkansas, Jack Barnes, II and wife Sheryl of Mena, Arkansas; grandchildren, DeAnna Skipper, Duane Powell, Dennis Powell, Lannie Kiersey, Scott Kiersey, Darrell Powell and Donita Gann; 18 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Love and Gertrude Barnes, and his wife, Jane Barnes.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Methodist Church with Brother Mark Lyles officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherry Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Duane Powell, Dennis Powell, Lannie Kiersey, Scott Kiersey, Darrell Powell, Coltn Powell, Aaron Kiersey, and Anthony Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees of Crow Burlingame.
